Former Real Madrid star Rafael van der Vaart backed Los Blancos coach Santiago Solari and said that the Spanish side will eventually cope with their old form and will also fulfill the gap created after the summer exit of legendary Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo. However, he also admitted that the side do misses their star forward.
After scoring 450 goals in 438 official appearances for the Spanish champions, Cristiano Ronaldo made his move to Italian side Juventus this May ending his nine-year spell at Madrid. And since then, Real Madrid is struggling to get a perfect replacement for Ronaldo who can cover up the gap in the forward section.
The Spanish club is now linked with the big-money move of Paris Saint-Germain’s famous pair Neymar and Kylian Mbappe besides their recent rumored linkup with Chelsea’s Eden Hazard. Cristiano Ronaldo, on the other hand, is now in his usual form and already scored 11 goals for the Italian Serie A champions.
While talking about Cristiano Ronaldo, former Real Madrid star Rafael van der Vaart told Spax and Goal that “You cannot just replace a player who scores 40 to 50 goals per season, and, of course, Real miss Ronaldo,” he then admitted, “What he did at Real is totally crazy.”
However, the former galactico also hopes that the current Real Madrid squad will eventually get back their usual form. He said “The quality in the squad is still there. They don’t need any winter signings. It’s always difficult to find suitable players in the winter to really help a team in this class.”
Rafael van der Vaart also thinks that the entire squad is trying their best to grow together as a team and said: “The team has to grow together again to compensate for the departure of Ronaldo.” He also gave his views on Real Madrid coach and said: “Santiago Solari is doing a very good job, but he needs some time.”
