Right after a month-long uncertainty about the future of the French forward, Manchester United interim coach played a pivotal role in the five-and-a-half-year contract extension of Anthony Martial. And now, it is revealed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer used Cristiano Ronaldo’s example to convince the forward to stay at Old Trafford.
The interim coach himself cited that he used the example of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to convince Anthony Martial and to make him understand what he could achieve with Manchester United. The manager previously also expressed how Cristiano Ronaldo helped Manchester United to win against Arsenal.

While talking about his role in Anthony Martial’s contract extension, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said, “I’ve been here for 15 years, coach, player, now manager and I know how much this club can give to your career and what you can give to the club.” He then added, “I’m here to help the club and I’m just being honest with him that for me this was the best place to be.”
He said “I speak about my experience at this club, what he can achieve at this club because I think I can achieve a lot,” and then further added “When you sit him down and talk to him, for example, about Cristiano’s career, what he’s made of his career and how he’s got there and we talk about all the fantastic players with the history they’ve got.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said “I think Anthony just sat down and said, ‘If I can be a part of this I’d like to’. I believe and the club believes we have got a top player there.” He also talked about the correct way to choose a path in the football career and said, “That’s up to any player if you make a decision on how to develop your own career.”
He also again gave the Portuguese star’s example and said “Cristiano was the best at it, the way he’s changed since he came to United to now. He understands his strengths, his weaknesses.” He then further added “That’s got to be part of any player that you’ve got to model yourself on someone.”
