After enjoying a great year in 2018, Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that personal awards are not at all his priority as he always wanted more as a team player. Before moving to Juventus last year, the 33-year-old international guided Spanish side Real Madrid to their third straight UEFA Champions League success.
Cristiano Ronaldo is having a great form since his transfer to Italian Serie A side Juventus as he is now sits at the top of the Italian goalscoring chart with 15 goals in 24 games. The Portuguese star recently lost his potential sixth Ballon d’Or to his former Los Blancos teammate Luka Modric after Croatia’s great run at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
2018 seemed a great year for Cristiano Ronaldo as he scored 49 times in 53 appearances that he made for his club and country last year. Besides, he also picked up his usual pace in the Serie A, although he faced a little trouble scoring for Juventus at the start of the 2018-19 Italian football season.
Juventus is facing the league draught since 1996, but this year, Cristiano Ronaldo is quite hopeful that he will guide them to their first ever major trophy in last 22 years. The Italian side is now holding the top spot of the Serie A table with 53 points in 19 games. Besides, they are yet to face any loss in the league this season.
Cristiano Ronaldo failed to achieve any big individual award this season so far as he lost both the Ballon d’Or and Best FIFA Men’s player to his former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric. While Modric led his side Croatia to the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Portugal’s world cup run came to an end after their 2-1 defeat against Uruguay in the round of 16.
While talking about individual awards, Cristiano Ronaldo says in an interview with Record that “I’m not obsessed with individual prizes”, and then added, “The important thing is helping the team, always, and therefore the rest arrives naturally.” The Portuguese star then further added, “I don’t hide that I’m happy when I win but it’s not the end of the world if it can’t happen.”
