Arsenal vs Rennes Highlights and Goals | The French outfit defeated the Premier League side with a 3-1 score

The Premier League club certainly felt the heat as they faced a tragic 3-1 defeat in the Arsenal vs Rennes Europa League match last night. And with that defeat, they now have a very low chance to progress in the quarterfinals of the Europa League this season. However, it is now solely depends on the second leg to finally see who will have the last laugh.

Alex Iwobi scored the first goal for Arsenal just three minutes after the starting whistle. Benjamin Bourigeaud then scored the equalizer for Rennes in the 42nd minute. Nacho Monreal scored an own goal in the 65th minute followed by the third goal of Rennes by Ismaila Sarr in the 88th minute of the match.

While talking about the match, Unai Emery said, “We controlled the first 40 minutes of the game. After the red card we could not control it.” He then added, “We wanted to hold the positioning with one player less, but also take chances to transition or to get possession around the box. We had one chance with Mesut [Ozil] but it’s [not] enough.”

Arsenal manager said, “When it was 2-1, thinking it’s difficult to have a better result, we wanted to hold it but, the transition is another bad action for us and they won.” He also added, “They won the first 90 minutes, but we have another 90 minutes at home with our supporters and we want to think positive now. It will be 11 against 11 and when we were playing 11 against 11 the team was playing well.”

Unai Emery said, “I decided not to give Eddie Nketiah the big responsibility of these matches, but it’s one transition and we lost this situation.” He further added, “When we had one less player on the pitch I think we could’ve done better, but we didn’t control and didn’t hold the result. It can be different [in the second leg], but we need to be more compact.”

On the other hand, Rennes coach Julien Stephan also previously talked about the clash of Unai Emery and Hatem Ben Arfa. He said, “We did not need to talk about it together and there are plenty of other topics to talk about before talking about that. It is Rennes against Arsenal in the Europa League, it is not Hatem against Emery.”
